Senate President Godswill Akpabio has declared that Nigeria, at 65 years of independence, is firmly on the right track despite the challenges confronting the nation. Speaking in Abuja during events marking the country’s Independence Day, Akpabio emphasized that the sacrifices and reforms currently being undertaken will yield long-term benefits that will reposition Nigeria as a stronger and more prosperous nation.
Akpabio noted that while Nigerians have endured economic difficulties, including rising living costs and structural reforms, the government’s policies are designed to address fundamental problems that have hindered development for decades. He assured citizens that the sacrifices being made today are steps towards sustainable growth, improved infrastructure, and stronger democratic institutions.
The Senate President commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for taking bold decisions in areas such as fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange reforms, and the fight against corruption. According to him, these measures, though tough in the short term, will unlock the nation’s economic potential and reduce dependence on external borrowing.
Highlighting the resilience of Nigerians, Akpabio stressed that the country’s greatest strength lies in its people’s determination and unity. He urged citizens to remain patient and optimistic, assuring them that the government is committed to ensuring that no one is left behind in the ongoing reforms.
The Senate President also paid tribute to the nation’s founding fathers and past leaders, acknowledging their role in laying the foundation for democracy and national sovereignty.
