ABUJA, Nigeria (FN) — Funeral arrangements have been announced for Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, the late ARISE News anchor, correspondent, and producer who tragically lost her life during an armed robbery in Abuja on September 29. She will be laid to rest on Saturday, October 18, in her hometown of Agulu, Anambra State.
Maduagwu, 29, was a UK-trained lawyer and journalist known for her vibrant on-screen presence and incisive reporting. Her death shocked colleagues and viewers alike, prompting tributes from across Nigeria’s media landscape. A security guard, Barnabas Danlami, also died in the attack at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja.
The funeral rites will begin with an “Evening of Tributes” on Sunday, October 12, at the THISDAY Dome in Abuja. A service of songs will follow on Wednesday, October 15, at Corpus Christi Cathedral on Kaduna Street, Port Harcourt. Her final interment will take place after a funeral mass at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Agulu.
Security agencies have made progress in the investigation, with the Defence Headquarters confirming the arrest of 12 suspects linked to the robbery. The Federal Capital Territory Police Command continues to pursue leads as part of the broader crackdown on violent crime in the region.
