Emir of Zazzau Confers Prestigious Sardauna Title on Former Vice President Namadi Sambo

The Emir of Zazzau, His Royal Highness Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, has conferred the traditional title of Sardaunan Zazzau on former Vice President of Nigeria, Architect Namadi Sambo, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to national development and service to humanity. The conferment ceremony, held at the Emir’s Palace in Zaria, Kaduna State, drew dignitaries from across the country, including political leaders, royal fathers, and community representatives.

In his remarks, the Emir described the former vice president as a statesman of high repute whose humility, leadership, and commitment to the unity and progress of Nigeria had earned him the respect of the people of Zazzau Emirate. He said the title of Sardauna—one of the most prestigious in the emirate—symbolized courage, wisdom, and service, qualities which Sambo had consistently demonstrated in both public and private life.

“Architect Namadi Sambo has distinguished himself as a patriot who has served Nigeria with honour and dignity,” the Emir said. “This title is not just a recognition of his past achievements but also a call to continue his role as a bridge-builder and mentor to younger generations.”

In his acceptance speech, the former vice president expressed deep gratitude to the Emir and the Zazzau Emirate Council for the honour bestowed upon him. He pledged to continue promoting peace, development, and unity across Nigeria, noting that traditional institutions remain vital to the country’s stability and cultural heritage. “This recognition is a great honour, and I dedicate it to the people of Zazzau and all Nigerians who believe in the ideals of service and nation-building,” Sambo stated.

Dignitaries present at the event included governors, ministers, members of the National Assembly, and traditional rulers from across the North. They praised the Emir for recognizing Sambo’s contributions to national development, describing the conferment as well-deserved and symbolic of his enduring influence in Nigerian politics.

The ceremony was marked by colourful displays of traditional music, dances, and cultural performances, reflecting the rich heritage of the Zazzau Emirate. Residents and well-wishers thronged the palace to celebrate the occasion, expressing pride in the Emir’s decision to honour one of Zaria’s most illustrious sons.

With the conferment, Namadi Sambo joins the ranks of distinguished personalities who have held the revered Sardauna title in the historic Zazzau Emirate—further cementing his place as a respected statesman and custodian of Nigeria’s cultural and political legacy.
