A group of high school boys are accused of blackmailing, sexually assaulting a teacher, and then setting her apartment ablaze.
The 28 year old woman was allegedly tormented by a group of seven teenagers, aged between 14 and 17, from May 2024 to January 2025. The trial in Austria revealed that the woman’s alleged ordeal began shortly after she started a legal and consensual relationship with a 17-year-old former student who had already left the school.
The court heard that the teenager bragged about the relationship to his friends, which led to a group of boys starting to show up at the teacher’s home. The teens allegedly claimed they were part of a criminal gang and threatened to expose the relationship if the woman did not let them into her apartment.
The teens are accused of using the home as a safe house for storing drugs. The trial heard allegations that the gang sexually assaulted the woman both individually and in groups, blackmailed her with recordings, and forced her to pay for their food, taxis, and cigarettes.The group allegedly filmed the encounters and threatened to distribute the clips around her school if she did not comply with their demands.
Fearing for her job, the woman did not tell anyone and instead endured months of abuse, it is alleged.During the trial, the prosecution alleged that the teens stole money and personal items from the teacher. The situation spiraled out of control to the point where in January 2025, it was claimed, three of the teenagers, two aged 15 and one 14, broke into her apartment and made off with jewelry, watches, and sunglasses.
The prosecution then accused them of setting fire to the apartment to destroy any evidence.While the defendants admitted to the break-in, they denied intentionally starting the fire. Their lawyers argued that their interactions were consensual.Although the defense has admitted to some thefts and drug-related offenses, they strongly deny the charges of sexual violence.
The prosecution maintains that the youth gang consists of around 70 to 80 members, with the teens posting videos of their crimes online. The court was told that phone records and other digital evidence reveal repeated visits and a systematic campaign of intimidation starting from May 2024.In September 2024, at the beginning of the school year, the woman reportedly took sick leave from work because she couldn’t face her students due to the alleged abuse.
