NORFOLK, Virginia — New York Attorney General Letitia James is reportedly housing another criminally involved family member at a second property she owns in Virginia — and new revelations suggest that she and her older sister may have deeper entanglements in legal controversies.
James’ 21-year-old grand-niece, Cayla Thompson-Hairston, a social media figure known for her explicit content on OnlyFans and other platforms, was charged in April 2024 with providing false information during an attempt to purchase a firearm in Suffolk, Virginia. Authorities allege she failed to disclose a prior disqualifying criminal record.
Thompson-Hairston was previously charged as a juvenile in 2020 with malicious wounding — a serious felony under Virginia law involving intentional bodily harm with the intent to maim or kill. That case was ultimately pleaded down to a misdemeanor, leading prosecutors to drop the more recent weapons charges after confirming her eligibility had changed.

At the time of her original charge, Cayla was reportedly also involved in a separate criminal matter alongside her older sister, Nakia Thompson, now 36, who is a wanted fugitive in North Carolina and has an extensive history of arrests. Nakia has reportedly been living with her children at a Virginia property connected to James since at least 2020.
Thompson-Hairston maintains a provocative online presence, with social media posts that include explicit photos, displays of cash, and videos featuring her pregnant belly. She recently announced she is expecting a child.
The property where Cayla is reportedly staying has also come under federal scrutiny in connection to an ongoing investigation involving James. Authorities are examining whether the property was misrepresented during a mortgage application, with questions about whether it was used as a personal residence or an investment rental.
The revelations surrounding James’ extended family have intensified scrutiny of her conduct outside New York and fueled speculation about the use of her real estate holdings in Virginia.
The judge presiding over the ongoing legal matters involving James is overseeing proceedings that could have wider implications, especially given her high-profile role as New York’s top law enforcement official.
Questions remain about the extent to which James was aware of or involved in her relatives’ legal issues, but the controversies continue to raise concerns about ethics, family entanglements, and the personal dealings of one of the nation’s most visible attorneys general.
