DUMKA, India (FN) — A Spanish couple documenting their global motorbike journey were violently attacked while camping in eastern India, with the husband forced to witness the gang rape of his wife by seven men, according to local authorities.

Vicente, 63, and Fernanda Gonzalez, 28, travel influencers with a large social media following, were en route to Nepal from India when they stopped for the night in Jharkhand’s Dumka district in 2024. The couple had pitched their tents near the Nepal border when the assault occurred.

In a video posted online, Vicente described the ordeal as “three hours of hell,” saying the attackers beat him and tied his hands while his wife was repeatedly raped. Fernanda, visibly bruised, said the attackers also stole some belongings but insisted their primary motive was sexual violence.

“They beat us. They put a knife to my neck and told me they were going to kill me,” Vicente said. “Fernanda was raped. Seven of them.”

Local police confirmed that three suspects have been arrested and charged with rape. Authorities said a manhunt is underway for the remaining suspects. Officials also stated that the couple has been placed under protective custody and awarded compensation of one million rupees.

Deputy Commissioner Anjaneyulu Dodde said the investigation is ongoing and pledged a swift trial. “We are conducting a thorough investigation and will try to ensure a speedy trial and conviction,” he said.

The couple has since returned to Spain and expressed their intention to resume their journey once Fernanda has recovered. “We want to rest and be with our family,” Vicente said. “Then, when Fernanda is fully recovered, we will continue our tour of Asia.”
