SOUTH FULTON, Ga. — A Georgia mother has been arrested after allegedly taking her four children without authorization during a supervised visit, prompting a police search and raising questions about child welfare oversight.
According to the South Fulton Police Department, Vanessa Carr was meeting with her children at Welcome Park around 11:15 a.m. on Saturday when she reportedly left the location with them in an unidentified vehicle. The children — Genesis Carr, Jahdim Carr, Vincent Carr, and Jaxon Harrell — range in age from 11 months to 9 years and were in the custody of the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS).

Authorities located Carr and the children late Saturday night at a Greyhound bus station in Atlanta. Carr was taken into custody, and the children were returned to DFACS care.
Details surrounding the custody arrangement remain unclear, including the reason Carr lost custody and who was responsible for supervising the visit. DFACS has not yet commented on the incident, and court records are being reviewed for further information.
According to the Georgia Department of Human Services, children may be removed from a home for various reasons, such as inadequate care or repeated drug-related offenses by a parent. The agency notes that not all removals are linked to abuse.
The case has sparked renewed attention on the protocols surrounding supervised visits and the challenges faced by families navigating the child welfare system.
