ABUJA, Nigeria (FN) — Nigerian Senator Ned Nwoko on Sunday accused his wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, of drug and alcohol abuse following the circulation of a video showing her in a visibly distressed state. In a statement posted to his verified Instagram account, Nwoko attributed the turmoil in their marriage to what he described as her “unprovoked carnage” while under the influence of substances.

The footage, which went viral on Saturday, captured Daniels shouting during a confrontation, saying, “In Ned Nwoko’s house, I am nothing, but in my own house, I am a queen. Not again. I can’t stand the violence, it’s too much.” Her remarks have intensified public speculation over the state of the high-profile marriage, which has often attracted media scrutiny due to a 40-year age gap between the couple.

Nwoko, a former member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives and current senator representing Delta North, said Daniels’ behavior had become erratic and violent, citing an alleged incident in which she assaulted three staff members and damaged property, including vehicles and windows, over a 48-hour period.

The senator claimed Daniels had relocated to a residence where she would have “unrestricted access to drugs,” and accused two individuals, identified only as “Sammy” and “Ann,” of supplying her with narcotics. He specifically named Sammy as a central figure in what he described as a scene of chaos that unfolded at their home during his absence.

In his post, Nwoko offered details of two rehabilitation options presented to Daniels—one in Asokoro, Abuja, and another abroad in Jordan—both of which, he said, would limit her access to substances. “She must continue her rehabilitation programme, or I fear for her life and safety,” he wrote

The allegations have sparked backlash from Daniels’ brother, rapper Ojeogwu Samuel Danhillman, known as Sammy West, who posted a video to his Instagram page accusing Nwoko of physically assaulting his sister. “Anywhere a man beats a woman—whether she’s my sister or not—I will fight with my blood,” he said.

As of Monday, Daniels had not issued a public response to Nwoko’s claims, nor had her representatives addressed the allegations. Her silence has left the broader public relying solely on Nwoko’s version of events, which some critics say lacks independent verification or medical substantiation.

Nwoko denied any history of abuse, stating, “I have other wives, and none will ever accuse me of violence. Regina is the violent one here.” However, the viral video featuring Daniels’ claims of violence suggests a conflicting narrative that has yet to be reconciled publicly.

Daniels, who married Nwoko in 2019, was 19 at the time. The couple shares two children and have frequently appeared together at political and entertainment events in Nigeria. In recent months, however, speculation about marital discord intensified after Daniels appeared to distance herself from the Nwoko name on social media.

The situation has raised broader questions about domestic stability, power dynamics in relationships with significant age and financial disparities, and the potential for substance abuse issues to escalate into public crises when left unaddressed. It remains unclear whether legal or medical interventions will follow the senator’s accusations, or whether Daniels will come forward with her own account.
