JOS, Nigeria (FN) — Gunmen launched a deadly attack on Daron village in Gyel District, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing two residents and injuring another. The assault occurred around 7:50 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, reigniting fears of renewed violence in the region.

Local sources confirmed that the victims were ambushed while in the village, with one of the deceased identified as Mr. Pam Choji. The attackers, suspected to be armed Fulani militias, reportedly opened fire without provocation, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

Solomon Dalyop, President of the Berom Youths Moulders Association, condemned the killings and described the incident as part of a disturbing pattern of violence targeting rural communities. He said the attack followed early warnings of planned raids on Gyel and neighboring settlements, which had been circulating among local leaders.

“The bandits just opened fire on the community,” Dalyop stated. “We had received intelligence about possible attacks, but unfortunately, this one was carried out before any preventive measures could be taken.”

The Plateau State Police Command confirmed the incident. Police spokesman Alabo Alfred said authorities were aware of the attack and had dispatched personnel to the area. “We have just finished our monthly press briefing, and we are moving to the community right now,” he told reporters.

This latest violence underscores the persistent security challenges facing Plateau State, where ethnic and communal tensions have fueled a cycle of deadly clashes. Despite efforts by security agencies, many rural areas remain vulnerable to surprise attacks.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang responded to the incident by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to ending such violence. He urged perpetrators to renounce bloodshed and embrace peace, emphasizing that sustainable development cannot take root in an atmosphere of fear and instability.

Community leaders are calling for increased surveillance, rapid response units, and stronger collaboration between local vigilantes and formal security forces. As residents mourn the loss of their loved ones, many are left wondering when lasting peace will finally return to Plateau’s troubled villages.
