ABUJA, Nigeria (FN) — The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating the completion of key road and bridge projects nationwide through enhanced collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank.
Minister of Works David Umahi made the announcement during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the bank’s Regional Hub in Nigeria, led by Team Leader for Operations Ibrahim Chalive.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Federal Ministries of Works and Finance and the Islamic Development Bank to fund and implement critical components of the Renewed Hope Legacy Road Projects under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“Infrastructure remains a major driver of economic growth,” Umahi said. “President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda prioritizes road development as a catalyst for economic emancipation, job creation, and the smooth movement of goods and people nationwide.”
Umahi emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering infrastructure in a transparent, innovative, and cost-effective manner. He also expressed appreciation to the National Assembly for its continued support in securing funding for strategic infrastructure initiatives.
Chalive praised the ministry’s reforms in engineering design, quality assurance, and project management, and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to providing both financial and technical support to bolster Nigeria’s infrastructure base.
“This partnership reflects our shared vision for sustainable development,” Chalive said. “We are encouraged by the ministry’s progress and remain committed to supporting Nigeria’s infrastructure goals.”
Also present at the meeting was Barr. Chioma Nweze, Special Assistant to the President on Stakeholders Engagement (South East), who emphasized the importance of inclusive stakeholder involvement in infrastructure planning and delivery.
Following the meeting, both parties agreed to establish a joint technical team to identify priority areas and develop a collaborative framework that promotes accountability, transparency, and timely project execution.
The renewed collaboration, Umahi said, underscores the Federal Government’s determination to modernize Nigeria’s road network and advance the vision of sustainable national development.
