Train collides with Amazon truck

UNION CITY, Ga. (FN) — A freight train collided with an Amazon delivery truck Wednesday morning at a railroad crossing in Union City, prompting a swift emergency response but resulting in no reported injuries, authorities said.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Roosevelt Highway and Goodson Road, according to Union City police. The Amazon-branded truck, which did not appear to be carrying packages at the time, was struck by the train shortly after 9 a.m.

Photos from the scene showed several plastic dividers with Amazon logos scattered near the tracks. The truck’s trailer sustained significant damage, but officials confirmed that the driver was unharmed.

Tom Lee, a cleanup contractor with Mask Rolloff Dumpster and Container Service, was called to assist at the site. “Officials told me no one was hurt, thankfully,” Lee said. “We’re just here to help clear the debris. It should be wrapped up by lunchtime.”

Union City police temporarily closed the area to traffic while crews worked to remove the wreckage and assess damage to the rail line. CSX Transportation, the freight operator involved in the incident, said it is cooperating with local authorities to investigate the cause of the crash.

In a statement, a CSX spokesperson said, “Safety is our top priority. We are working closely with Union City officials to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident and to ensure the safe restoration of rail operations.”

No hazardous materials were involved, and there was no fire or derailment, according to emergency responders.

The Federal Railroad Administration has been notified and may conduct a follow-up review. Local officials urged drivers to remain cautious at railroad crossings and to obey all warning signals.

The incident remains under investigation.
