Cristiano Ronaldo has reignited his criticism of Manchester United, expressing disappointment over the club’s trajectory and questioning its internal structure. In a recent interview with journalist Piers Morgan, the Portuguese forward reflected on his former team’s current state, offering both praise and pointed remarks about their progress under manager Ruben Amorim.
Ronaldo, who left Manchester United in 2022 following a controversial interview that led to the termination of his contract, said he feels “sad” for the club. Despite a recent four-match unbeaten run, including a notable win against Liverpool, Ronaldo remains unconvinced that the team is on the right path.

“Amorim is doing his best. What is he going to do, miracles? That’s impossible,” Ronaldo said. He added that while the squad possesses talent, some players lack the mindset and understanding of what it means to represent Manchester United. He referenced the Sanctuary of Fátima in Portugal to emphasize that miracles are not a realistic expectation in football.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner also addressed the club’s broader challenges, stating that the problems extend beyond coaching and player performance. “Manchester United right now doesn’t have a structure,” Ronaldo said. “It’s not only about the coach and players. They need to change. I hope that happens soon because the club has amazing potential.”
Manchester United endured a difficult 2024–25 season, finishing 15th in the Premier League—their worst-ever league result. They also missed a chance at silverware after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur. However, recent performances have shown signs of improvement, with the team climbing to eighth place with 17 points, just two behind second-placed Manchester City.
Ronaldo’s comments come as Amorim prepares his squad for a crucial fixture against Tottenham Hotspur before the final international break of the year. The match is seen as a test of United’s resilience and progress under the Portuguese manager, who took over the reins one year ago.
In a separate report, Ronaldo’s reluctance to engage in a WhatsApp group with former Manchester United teammates was highlighted. Though he remains part of the group, he rarely contributes, reportedly due to concerns that his comments might be used publicly by former teammate Rio Ferdinand, who now works as a football pundit.
Ronaldo’s relationship with Manchester United fans remains complex. While many still revere his first spell at Old Trafford, his second stint and subsequent departure divided opinion. His latest remarks are likely to stir further debate about the club’s direction and leadership.
Manchester United has yet to respond publicly to Ronaldo’s statements. Amorim, meanwhile, continues to focus on stabilizing the team’s form and building momentum ahead of the international break.
