PITTSBURGH (FN) — Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman is under observation at a Pittsburgh hospital after a fall during an early‑morning walk near his home in Braddock, his office said Thursday.
In a self-deprecating comment conveyed via his office, Fetterman added: “If you thought my face looked bad before, wait until you see it now!”
Health Incident
Sen. Fetterman’s team said the episode was triggered by a ventricular fibrillation flare-up, a serious type of irregular heartbeat that caused him to feel light-headed before his fall.
He struck his face but sustained only minor injuries, according to his spokesperson.
Hospital and Treatment
Fetterman was taken to a hospital “out of an abundance of caution,” the statement said. He is undergoing routine observation as medical staff monitor him and adjust his medications.

This is not the first time Fetterman’s health has been under public scrutiny. He suffered a stroke in 2022 and was later diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and atrial fibrillation — heart conditions that require careful management. He also has a pacemaker-defibrillator implanted to correct abnormal heart rhythms. Without rapid treatment, V‑Fib can lead to cardiac arrest. Fetterman’s defibrillator is capable of detecting and correcting such dangerous rhythms.
