Change in Nigerian Law School Call to the Bar Ceremony Sparks Concerns Over Centralization
The Council of Legal Education (CLE), Nigerian Law School, has announced a change in the date for the forthcoming November 2025 Call to the Bar Ceremony.

Originally scheduled for Wednesday, 26th November 2025, the ceremony will now hold a day earlier, on Tuesday, 25th November 2025. The council informed the general public, particularly all candidates, of the adjustment through an official statement.
Concerns Over Centralization
While the change may seem minor, critics have raised broader concerns about the centralization of the Call to the Bar Ceremony. Many argue that holding the event at a central location, rather than in the states chosen by candidates, deprives family members and loved ones of the opportunity to witness this important milestone.
“It is disheartening that family members who have supported candidates throughout their legal training may now be unable to attend due to travel constraints,” said a concerned legal practitioners who have gone through the process.
In addition, centralization imposes significant financial burdens on candidates. Many must bear the cost of travel, accommodation, and logistics to attend the ceremony away from home. Lawyers have suggested that decentralizing the ceremony to individual states would reduce these pressures and make the event more accessible.
Legal professionals and bar aspirants have called on the Nigerian Law School to consider state-level ceremonies, allowing candidates to be called to the Bar in the state where they trained or chose to graduate. Advocates say this approach would:
- Ensure more family and friends can attend
- Reduce financial strain on candidates
- Enhance the prestige and personal significance of the ceremony
The Council of Legal Education has not yet indicated whether future ceremonies will be decentralized or remain centralized at a national venue.
For now, candidates and their families are urged to take note of the new date: Tuesday, 25th November 2025, to make the necessary arrangements for the historic day.
