Nigeria have confirmed the arrest of an 18‑year‑old man accused of defiling a minor. According to police spokesperson DSP Ayanlade, officers from the Ilero Divisional Police Headquarters responded swiftly after receiving the report, securing the area and rescuing the victim. She was immediately taken to a medical facility for medical examination and psychosocial support.

The suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident and, according to investigators, has confessed to the crime while cooperating with authorities. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Gender Desk for further inquiry.

Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, stated that the suspect will face charges in court once investigations are complete. He reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling sexual and gender‑based violence, stressing that offenders will face strict legal consequences.

Public reactions have been strong. Many Nigerians expressed outrage on social media, demanding justice and calling for tougher measures to protect children. Advocacy groups highlighted the importance of community vigilance, noting that sexual violence against minors often goes underreported due to stigma and fear.

He further said authorities have urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.

For many observers, the case underscores both the urgency of child protection in Nigeria and the growing public demand for accountability. While the arrest marks an important step toward justice, advocates stress that lasting change requires stronger enforcement, community education, and sustained support for survivors.
