Russian airstrikes have killed one person and wounded two others in Ukraine’s southern region of Kherson, local officials reported on Thursday. The strikes targeted residential areas, causing damage and casualties. In the village of Tavriyske, one person was killed when guided bombs hit a residential building, wounding another man, aged 34. Additionally, a woman in her 70s was wounded in the Korabelny district overnight due to Russian bombing.

The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to result in significant human suffering and infrastructure damage. Russian forces have been making gradual gains in the northeast Sumy region, while their airstrikes target Ukrainian towns and cities daily. Despite international pressure, diplomatic talks between the two nations remain stalled. Kyiv has accused Moscow of deliberately sabotaging a peace deal to prolong its offensive and seize more territory.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began in 2022, has led to the occupation of around a fifth of Ukraine’s territory. Moscow claims to have annexed four Ukrainian regions as its own, in addition to Crimea, which it captured in 2014. The conflict has resulted in significant human suffering, displacement, and economic losses.

In a related development, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed an accord with the Council of Europe to establish a special tribunal to try top officials over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. This move underscores Ukraine’s commitment to seeking accountability for the actions of Russian leaders and demonstrates the international community’s support for Ukraine’s efforts to bring perpetrators to justice.

The situation on the ground remains dire, with civilians bearing the brunt of the conflict. The international community continues to call for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, but the path forward remains uncertain. As the conflict continues, the humanitarian situation is likely to worsen, and the need for a diplomatic solution becomes increasingly urgent.
