The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the death of a woman, Mrs. Rabiat Atere, whose lifeless body was found on her farm in Oka-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government area of Ondo State. The cause of her death remains unknown, but some residents suspect that she was killed by suspected herdsmen. Her remains have been deposited at a hospital in Iwaro Oka Community.
The police spokesman, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation has commenced into the case. He assured that the command’s operatives are working to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice. “I can confirm the incident to you, and the Ondo State Police Command has launched a manhunt to ensure that the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law,” Ayanlade said.
The Akoko Youth Forum has condemned the killing, calling on security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted. In a statement, the group’s National President, Mr. Ibukunoluwa Akeju, alleged that suspected Fulani assailants carried out the act. The group described the killing as a “heinous act” and a “direct attack on the peace and safety of our people, a threat we can no longer tolerate.”
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of farmers in the area and the need for increased security measures to protect lives and property. The police investigation is ongoing, and the community is waiting with bated breath for justice to be served. The killing of Mrs. Atere is a tragic reminder of the dangers that many farmers face while working on their farms, and it highlights the need for authorities to take concrete steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
