The son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Marius Borg Høiby, has been charged with rape, sexual assault, and bodily harm following a thorough investigation by Oslo police. The 28-year-old is suspected of committing three rapes and 23 other offenses, including four counts of sexually offensive behavior, one count of abuse in a close relationship, and two counts of bodily harm.
Høiby, the stepson of Crown Prince Haakon, was arrested three times last year – in August, September, and November – amid allegations of rape and assault. After a 10-month investigation, Norwegian police handed the case over to prosecutors, who will decide whether to press charges. Police attorney Andreas Kruszewski confirmed that the investigation involved a “double-digit” number of alleged victims, but declined to provide further details.
The police investigation included numerous witness interviews, searches, and a review of extensive digital material. Høiby cooperated with the police during questioning, which took place several times during the autumn of 2024 and spring of 2025. While some cases involving sexual offenses were dismissed due to statute of limitations and evidentiary reasons, the police have moved forward with the charges.
Høiby’s lawyer, Petar Sekulic, stated that his client takes the accusations seriously but does not acknowledge any wrongdoing in most cases, particularly those related to sexual abuse and violence. The Royal House of Norway noted that the case is proceeding through the legal system and declined to comment further.
As the case unfolds, it has garnered significant attention due to Høiby’s connection to the royal family. However, it’s worth noting that Høiby does not hold a royal title or official duties. The outcome of the case will depend on the decision of the prosecutors and the subsequent legal proceedings.
