The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially unveiled a brand-new trophy for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), symbolizing a new era of growth, unity, and excellence in African women’s football. The trophy was revealed on Wednesday evening in Casablanca, Morocco, just days before the tournament’s kickoff on Saturday.

The new trophy’s design is a masterpiece of symbolism, featuring 12 petals that merge into the shape of a blooming flower, each petal representing one of the participating nations. At the center of the trophy emerges a golden sphere patterned as a football, adorned with a gold map of Africa, reflecting the continent’s pride and global aspirations in the women’s game. The trophy is mounted on a pristine white marble base inscribed with the competition’s name and ringed with a gold-engraved CAF logo, reinforcing the confederation’s commitment to elevating the women’s game across all 54 member associations.

A New Chapter for Women’s Football

The unveiling of the new trophy marks a significant milestone in CAF‘s ongoing mission to develop women’s football and position Africa as a global force in the sport. According to CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the new trophy is part of his vision to make African women’s football among the best in the world. The 2024 edition of WAFCON has seen its prize money more than doubled to $2.4 million, underscoring CAF’s commitment to investing in the growth of women’s football.
