ExxonMobil has appointed Jagir Baxi as the new Chairman and Managing Director of its Nigerian affiliates, including Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited and Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria (Offshore East) Limited. Baxi succeeds Shane Harris, who has transitioned to ExxonMobil Headquarters in Houston. As the Lead Country Manager, Baxi will oversee ExxonMobil’s business operations in Nigeria, building on the work Harris had done over the past two years.
Baxi brings a wealth of experience and proven leadership to his new role. Prior to his appointment, he served as Executive Director for Production for all ExxonMobil affiliates in Nigeria. With over two decades of experience in the energy industry, Baxi has held various senior leadership positions in deepwater and LNG, working in countries such as Australia, Angola, Iraq, Qatar, Papua New Guinea, and the United States.
In his new role, Baxi aims to sustain and grow the strong collaborative relationships ExxonMobil has built with the Nigerian Government, NNPCL, venture partners, contractors, and local communities. “I am honored to lead our exceptional Nigeria team and build on the work that Shane Harris has done,” Baxi said. “Nigeria has significant offshore deepwater growth potential in oil and gas, and I feel privileged to be part of the ExxonMobil team working to deploy our global deepwater capabilities and strengths to support Nigeria in achieving its oil and gas industry aspirations.”
Baxi holds graduate degrees in Engineering and Science from Monash University and a Master of Business Administration from Melbourne Business School. His appointment is expected to further enhance ExxonMobil’s operations in Nigeria, leveraging the country’s remarkable talent and existing deepwater assets.
