A tragic incident has shaken the Onitsha community following the gruesome murder of a local fish farmer known for his brand Fish Magnet. The farmer had recently reached out to popular activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) on June 23 and June 26 to express gratitude for VDM’s visit to Onitsha and his efforts in speaking up for local traders. As a token of appreciation, he promised to gift VDM four large catfish from his farm. Sadly, before this gesture could be fulfilled, he was reportedly kidnapped and killed.

VDM, who disclosed the news with deep sorrow, condemned the rising wave of insecurity in Anambra State, especially in Awka. He called on the Executive Governor to take urgent steps to improve the state’s deteriorating security conditions. “I beg the government to give security to the people,” VDM said, as he decried the unchecked incidents of kidnapping and murder that are becoming a daily occurrence.

Adding to the outrage, VDM shared a disturbing message from a concerned resident, alleging that law enforcement authorities have failed to act. The message accused the Udo Ga Achi security outfit—established and trained to combat kidnapping—of abusing their powers by extorting money from internet fraudsters (commonly referred to as “Yahoo boys”) instead of focusing on their core duty of protecting citizens. “The police are not doing anything,” the message claimed, fueling fears that the state’s security structure is compromised.

In response to the tragic death of the Fish Magnet founder, VDM has pledged to organize a candlelight vigil on August 4 in Anambra State to honor the late farmer’s memory. The event will also serve as a platform to raise awareness about the growing wave of insecurity that continues to claim innocent lives. “This is no longer about social media—it’s about real lives being lost,” VDM stated.

The loss of the Fish Magnet farmer—whose only intention was to show appreciation—has struck a painful chord within the community. His death is now a symbol of the broader crisis facing Anambra State, and many are hoping it will trigger urgent government action to address the worsening security situation.
