The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has reiterated that the fate of Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 de Ultimate or KWAM 1, will be decided by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP). The musician was involved in a controversy with officials of ValueJet Airline at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on August 5, 2025. KWAM1 has since apologized for his actions, describing the incident as “unfortunate”.
The incident drew widespread public backlash after a video of the altercation went viral on social media. In the video, KWAM1 was seen attempting to obstruct the plane’s takeoff, leading to a six-month flying ban and the suspension of the pilots involved. The NCAA also wrote a petition to the AGF and IGP, demanding KWAM1’s probe and prosecution.
In his apology, KWAM1 explained that he suffers from chronic dehydration and was carrying a water flask with him on the day of the incident. He denied allegations that the flask contained alcohol and claimed that he passed through two security screenings with the empty flask. KWAM1 reaffirmed his patriotism and loyalty to Nigeria and expressed regret for his actions.
The NCAA spokesman, Michael Achimugu, stated that the authority lacks the authority to prosecute the matter and that the AGF and IGP are better positioned to determine the next steps. The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, also noted that the matter would have to be deliberated upon. The police and AGF have yet to respond to the petition and apology.
The fate of KWAM1 remains uncertain as the AGF and IGP deliberate on the matter. The musician’s apology has been noted, but the authorities must decide whether it is sufficient to mitigate the consequences of his actions. The incident highlights the importance of adhering to aviation protocols and respecting the rules and regulations that govern air travel.
