The Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Bola Oyebamiji, has clarified that President Bola Tinubu has not endorsed any aspirant seeking the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket for the 2026 election in Osun State. Oyebamiji, a gubernatorial aspirant alongside about 10 others, made this known during his consultation visit to the headquarters of Ifedayo and Odo Otin Local Government Area of the state. He emphasized that all governorship aspirants under the APC are qualified and good ambassadors of the party, with the paramount objective of winning next year’s poll in the state.
Oyebamiji’s campaign is gaining momentum, with the leader of the local government chairmen elected on the platform of APC in the state, Abiodun Idowu, declaring that majority members of the party in Ifedayo Local Government Area are rooting for him to clinch the gubernatorial ticket. Idowu stated that APC as a party in Ifedayo local government is solid and working in one direction to ensure the party’s victory in the next gubernatorial election.
During his visit, Oyebamiji urged people above 18 years to register for Permanent Voters Card (PVC) to enable them to participate in the next governorship poll. He described the PVC registration as a crucial aspect of voting and encouraged his supporters to go out en masse to register once the registration starts.
The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has expressed confidence in the APC’s chances of winning the 2026 governorship election in Osun State. Oyetola, who has opted out of the governorship contest, charged aspirants to compete without rancor and avoid campaigns of calumny. He emphasized that the party has qualified, quality, and competent aspirants who can contest for the governorship election.
Several prominent members of the APC are seeking the governorship ticket, including Oyebamiji, Senator Ajibola Basiru, Senator Jide Omoworare, and Chairman of Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, among others. The party’s stakeholders are optimistic about the APC’s chances of winning the election, given the quality of its aspirants and the party’s strong grassroots support.
