The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has announced that the second phase of rehabilitation works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge in Kosofe Local Government Area will begin on Tuesday, August 19, and run until October 1, 2025. The project, according to the agency, will focus on restoring the expansion joints on the bridge inbound Lagos Island as part of efforts to enhance structural integrity and improve road safety.

In a statement issued on Sunday by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, the General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, explained that motorists coming from the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and Toll Gate would be diverted into a single lane around the construction zone. He advised drivers originating from Ikeja and adjoining areas to consider alternative routes through Maryland, linking Ikorodu Road or Funsho Williams Avenue, and thereafter proceeding via Eko Bridge to Outer Marina and other connected corridors.

Bakare-Oki further noted that Victoria Island-bound motorists could take the Ojota Slip Road to Anthony, connecting through Gbagada to access the Third Mainland Bridge, while others could link Ikorodu Road to Funsho Williams Avenue and continue through Eko Bridge. He assured that LASTMA officials had been fully deployed to the affected areas to manage traffic flow, enforce discipline, and provide rapid response to emergencies throughout the construction period.

To ease anticipated disruptions, the agency disclosed that heavy-duty towing vehicles, mini tow trucks, and other critical road support infrastructure had been strategically positioned along diversion routes and key intersections. Motorists were strongly advised to exercise patience and comply with traffic directions, as the partial closure of the bridge was a necessary step in the state’s broader plan to deliver durable infrastructure and long-term traffic solutions for Lagos residents.

The LASTMA boss warned that defaulters who drive against traffic (one-way) or disregard traffic laws would face prosecution before the Lagos State Mobile Court. While commending road users for their cooperation during the project’s first phase, he urged motorists to report emergencies or incidents via the agency’s hotline, 080000527862, and stressed that traffic would be streamlined into a single lane 50 metres before the construction zone, with full access restored immediately after the site.
