The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the 2025 nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will commence on Monday, August 18, 2025, as part of preparations for the upcoming general elections. The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Commission on its official X handle on Friday.

According to INEC, online pre-registration will open on August 18 through its official portal, cvr.inecnigeria.org, allowing eligible Nigerians to begin the process virtually. Physical, in-person registration will follow on Monday, August 25, at all INEC Local Government Area offices and designated centres nationwide. The exercise will be conducted between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Mondays to Fridays.

The Commission urged Nigerians who have reached voting age or missed previous opportunities to register to take advantage of the exercise. It stressed that the CVR is not limited to new registrants but also covers services such as the transfer of voter registration, replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and correction of personal details, including names and dates of birth.

INEC reiterated its commitment to ensuring a transparent and inclusive electoral process. “Our goal is to ensure that every eligible Nigerian has the opportunity to exercise their civic right,” the statement read. “We are working to make the voter registration process accessible, transparent, and credible.”

With the 2025 general elections drawing closer, the CVR exercise is expected to play a crucial role in expanding voter participation and strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process. Political observers note that the registration window offers citizens a timely opportunity to secure their PVCs, which remain the most vital tool for participation in the elections.
