The Kaduna State Police Command has urged residents of Igabi Local Government Area and neighbouring communities to steer clear of designated areas as police recruits embark on a two-day shooting range exercise. The drill, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, will be held at the Amanan Kasuwa Shooting Range Ground along the Mararaban Jos–Panbegua Road in Igabi LGA.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the exercise forms part of the final phase of training for recruit constables of the Police College, Kaduna. Hassan explained that the drill is designed to sharpen the recruits’ weapons-handling skills and enhance their preparedness to confront Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
The police spokesman assured residents that the exercise would be conducted under strict safety guidelines and supervised by experienced instructors. He stressed that gunfire heard during the period should not cause panic, as security personnel had been deployed to secure the shooting range and its surroundings. “We appeal to residents, farmers, and commuters to avoid the marked vicinity throughout the exercise. Adequate safety measures are in place, and there is no cause for alarm,” Hassan said.
Highlighting the importance of the drill, Hassan noted that such exercises are critical in boosting the operational readiness of new officers before they are deployed across the country. He appealed for public cooperation, commending residents for their patience and understanding. “We know the sounds of gunfire may cause anxiety, but this is why we are notifying the public ahead of time,” he explained.
The Command emphasized that the exercise is temporary and will end on Wednesday. Normal activities are expected to resume in the area by Thursday, with the assurance that the police remain fully committed to safeguarding lives and property across Kaduna State.
