President Bola Tinubu has ordered a comprehensive overhaul of ongoing military operations following last week’s terrorist attack in Borno State that claimed dozens of lives, including civilians and soldiers. The President directed the Armed Forces to intensify their counterterrorism efforts with the deployment of advanced hardware, drones, and surveillance systems to eliminate terrorist groups across the country.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who conveyed the President’s directive, also extended condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum and the people of Borno during a visit to Darajamal community in Bama Local Government Area, where Boko Haram insurgents carried out the deadly assault. Shettima described the incident as a devastating tragedy for both the state and the nation, assuring grieving families that justice would be pursued.

Governor Zulum had earlier visited the scene on Saturday, commiserating with bereaved families and soldiers affected by the attack. In his message, Shettima reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to equipping the military with cutting-edge technology, stressing that additional drones had already been approved to bolster surveillance and operational response.

The Vice President also highlighted the Federal Government’s ongoing consideration of establishing state police as part of wider security reforms. He noted that localized policing units, familiar with cultural and geographical terrains, could better address the unique challenges facing volatile regions like Borno, while strengthening grassroots intelligence and rapid response capabilities.

Offering prayers for the victims, Shettima assured the Borno State government and affected communities of sustained federal support in the fight against terrorism. He emphasized that while the killings had plunged the nation into mourning, the resilience of the Armed Forces, coupled with renewed strategies, would ensure that the perpetrators face justice and Nigeria’s security challenges are ultimately overcome.
