The Federal Government of Nigeria has strongly condemned Israel’s recent airstrikes in Qatar, describing the attack as a violation of sovereignty and a threat to regional stability. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, expressed deep concern over reports that the Israeli military launched missile strikes on September 9, 2025, in Doha, targeting senior members of Hamas’ leadership.

According to the statement, Nigeria reaffirmed the principle of respecting international law and the sovereignty of all nations, warning that such cross-border use of force undermines peace efforts in the Middle East. The government stressed that the strikes, which have attracted widespread international condemnation—including from U.S. President Donald Trump—risk escalating tensions and jeopardizing ongoing diplomatic negotiations to end the war in Gaza.

The Tinubu-led administration highlighted Qatar’s longstanding role as a mediator in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, urging all parties to exercise maximum restraint and recommit to dialogue. “This development raises serious questions about regional stability and the prospects for ongoing diplomatic efforts,” the statement noted, emphasizing the need for peaceful engagement over military confrontation.

In extending Nigeria’s sympathies to those affected, the Ministry reiterated its support for initiatives that promote de-escalation, dialogue, and durable peace. The statement also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working with the international community, particularly through the United Nations and other multilateral platforms, to advance peace, security, and the rule of law in the Middle East and beyond.

With this stance, Nigeria joins a growing number of countries voicing concern over Israel’s actions, underscoring its diplomatic position as a supporter of mediation and conflict resolution in global affairs.
