Tragedy struck in Kaduna on Friday when an explosion occurred at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) factory, leaving two people dead and four others injured. The blast, which caused panic within the area, was confirmed by authorities who immediately launched an investigation into its cause.

Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion happened in one of the production sections of the facility, sending shockwaves across surrounding communities. Residents described scenes of confusion as workers and emergency responders rushed to evacuate the injured and contain the situation. Security operatives quickly cordoned off the area to prevent further incidents.

The injured victims were immediately taken to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the morgue. Medical officials confirmed that the wounded are receiving treatment, with some reported to be in stable condition.

DICON management expressed deep regret over the incident, assuring the public that necessary measures were being taken to determine the cause of the explosion. Officials also pledged to support the families of those who lost their lives and provide assistance to the injured workers.

Security agencies, in collaboration with technical experts, have commenced investigations to ascertain whether the explosion resulted from operational errors, equipment malfunction, or other possible factors. Authorities emphasized that findings from the probe would guide safety improvements to prevent a recurrence.

The Kaduna State Government extended condolences to the families of the victims and called for calm as investigations continue. It also assured residents that there was no wider threat to public safety, stressing that the explosion was an isolated industrial incident.

The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, established in 1964, is the country’s premier defence production facility responsible for manufacturing arms, ammunition, and related military equipment. The incident has once again raised concerns over industrial safety standards and the urgent need for stringent measures to protect workers in sensitive facilities.
