The coronation process of the Olubadan-designate, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, began on Sunday with a series of special prayers in Ibadan, marking the start of traditional and spiritual ceremonies leading to his formal installation as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland. The prayer sessions, held at prominent religious centres across the ancient city, attracted clerics, traditional leaders, political associates, family members, and residents, all gathered to seek divine guidance for a peaceful and successful reign.

The prayers, offered by both Islamic scholars and Christian clergy, reflected the deep religious diversity of Ibadan and the symbolic unity of its people. Clerics invoked blessings for wisdom, long life, and prosperity for the Olubadan-designate, while also praying for peace, progress, and stability in Ibadanland and Oyo State at large.

Senator Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, expressed gratitude to God and to the people of Ibadan for their support as he prepared to ascend the revered throne. He described the Olubadan stool as not only a position of honour but also a call to service, pledging to uphold the rich cultural heritage of Ibadan and ensure inclusive leadership.

Prominent Ibadan chiefs, members of the Olubadan-in-Council, and representatives of various family lineages were also present, reaffirming their loyalty and readiness to support the coronation process. They noted that beginning the rites with prayers was in keeping with tradition, as the Olubadan institution has long blended cultural rituals with spiritual observances.

Residents who witnessed the event hailed the start of the rites as historic, describing Ladoja as a respected statesman whose ascension symbolises continuity and renewal. Many expressed hope that his reign would bring harmony, social development, and renewed pride to Ibadanland.

The coronation rites are expected to continue with traditional ceremonies in the coming days, culminating in the formal installation of Ladoja as the Olubadan. The palace has assured that all cultural protocols will be observed while also ensuring the participation of the wider community.

As anticipation builds, Ibadan is already wearing a festive look, with cultural troupes, artisans, and market associations preparing to add colour to the coronation celebrations. The installation of Senator Ladoja is being described by many as not only a milestone for Ibadan but also a significant moment in the preservation of Yoruba traditional leadership.
