LOS ANGELES (AP) — Emily in Paris, the glossy romantic comedy that turned Parisian cafés, designer fashion and office drama into a worldwide streaming obsession, will end with its sixth season, Netflix announced Thursday.

The series, led by Lily Collins, became far more than a typical romantic comedy during its six year run. It grew into a global pop culture phenomenon, attracting audiences from Europe to Asia, Latin America and Africa, where viewers followed Emily Cooper’s chaotic love life, career struggles and culture clashes in the French capital.

Production on the final season has already started in Greece and Monaco, with Collins returning for one last chapter as the ambitious American marketing executive whose move to Paris changed her life and unexpectedly became one of Netflix’s most recognizable international brands.

Created by Darren Star, the show premiered in 2020 at a moment when much of the world was emerging from lockdowns and travel restrictions. For millions of viewers stuck at home, Emily in Paris offered a colorful escape filled with romance, luxury fashion, scenic European streets and the fantasy of starting over in another country. Its influence quickly spread beyond television.

Restaurants and tourist spots featured in the series saw increased attention from international visitors. Fashion brands benefited from the show’s viral outfits, while social media platforms filled with debates over Emily’s relationships, fashion choices and sometimes awkward attempts to fit into French culture.

Even critics who mocked the show’s exaggerated version of Paris helped fuel its popularity online, turning it into one of Netflix’s most talked-about series.

Season five ended with Emily returning to Paris after helping launch a Rome office and beginning a new relationship. Star recently said that, despite the character’s adventures abroad, Paris remained emotionally central to the story. “Paris is where her heart was,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

In a statement, Star described the series as “the trip of a lifetime,” thanking fans around the world for embracing the show. Collins also shared a farewell message promising that the final season would deliver “everything you love about the show” while giving viewers an emotional goodbye.

According to Netflix data, the series recorded roughly 250 million views between 2023 and 2025 and repeatedly ranked among the platform’s most-watched English-language shows worldwide.

Produced by Paramount Television Studios, Darren Star Productions and Jax Media, Emily in Paris now joins a growing list of major Netflix titles preparing to end, including The Lincoln Lawyer and The Night Agent.

For many fans, the show’s ending marks more than the conclusion of a streaming series. It closes a cultural moment that blended travel fantasy, romance and social media-era storytelling into one of Netflix’s defining global successes.
