Popular Nigerian comedian, Oluwaseyitan Aletile, widely known as Seyi Law, has called on Nigerians to exercise patience and understanding as the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration continue to take effect. He maintained that while the current hardship is undeniable, the nation would ultimately benefit from the policies if sustained with sincerity and consistency.
In a post shared on his social media handles, Seyi Law acknowledged the widespread frustrations among citizens, especially over the rising cost of living and inflation that have accompanied the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange rate. However, he argued that every major reform comes with initial discomfort before stability and growth set in. According to him, the government’s policies are designed to correct years of economic mismanagement, and short-term pain is necessary for long-term prosperity.
The comedian, known for his outspoken support of President Tinubu, stated that leadership is not about making popular decisions but about making tough choices for the greater good. He noted that although some of the policies appear harsh, they are targeted at repositioning the economy for future generations. Seyi Law also emphasized the need for citizens to stay hopeful and resilient while the government works toward tangible results.
Addressing critics who accused him of being insensitive to the plight of ordinary Nigerians, Seyi Law clarified that he feels the pain as well, but believes that lamentation alone would not solve the nation’s challenges. Instead, he urged Nigerians to hold leaders accountable while also supporting initiatives aimed at improving the economy, job creation, and local production.
He further appealed to the government to intensify efforts in cushioning the effects of the reforms through social intervention programs, subsidies on essential goods, and empowerment opportunities for small and medium-scale enterprises. According to him, this will help reduce the immediate burden on the poor while the broader reforms take shape.
Seyi Law’s comments have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some Nigerians applauding his optimism and others criticizing what they described as blind loyalty to the government. Many argued that while patience is important, the suffering of the masses should not be trivialized, and the government must act swiftly to deliver relief measures.
Despite the divergent opinions, Seyi Law maintained his stance that Nigeria’s economic turnaround requires collective endurance and faith in the reform process. He expressed optimism that if the administration remains focused and transparent, the sacrifices of today would pave the way for a more stable and prosperous nation tomorrow.
