The husband was shot by police after pointing handgun toward officers, GBI says
A woman is dead, and her husband is being treated after a shooting in Douglasville Saturday night, according to law enforcement
The shooting happened at a home located on 7082 Littlebrook Way just before 9:30 p.m. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Douglasville police were responding to a domestic call at the home when they found 56-year-old Sabrina Willis lying in the yard with unknown injuries and a man standing close by.
GBI says officers confronted the man, later identified as 51-year-old Volanta Lejuan Walker, who was armed with a handgun and “was given commands for him to drop his gun.” He refused to obey the commands and pointed the handgun towards officers, and an officer shot him.
Medical aid was given to Walker, and he was taken to a hospital for treatment.
As the investigation progressed, it was learned that the couple was arguing inside the home before Volanta chased Sabrina outside, where he shot her.
Sabrina had four daughters. Three were biological, and one she raised since she was 4 years old.
Her daughters told Reporters that she was a longtime hairstylist and had planned to hold a grand opening for her salon, the Groomsmen of Atlanta Barbershop, the day after she was shot.
Instead of canceling the event, Sabrina’s daughters moved forward with the grand opening on Sunday.“This was something she was really looking forward to,” said Jessica Barnswell.“
My momma put her blood, sweat and tears into this business,” said Michaella Barnswell.
Sabrina has had the shop on Fairburn Road since 2009. She wanted to hold a grand opening after revamping it with additional booths and suites.
Friends and loyal customers came out to show their support for the business and her daughters. “She was a loving person. She showed up for people so they’re going to show up for her,” said Anesha Nixon. Her daughters said they want to make sure she’s remembered not by how she died, but for her passion and impact in the community. “This really helps keep us going today because this was a really tough, tough day for us. This is what my mom would’ve wanted,” said Shabrecka Polk.
The Groomsmen of Atlanta Barbershop is located at 6229 Fairburn Rd in Douglasville.
