ABUJA, Nigeria (FN) — Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has stirred fresh controversy after publicly defending polygamy and dismissing allegations of domestic violence made by his estranged wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday, Nwoko said he “feels sorry for men with one wife,” arguing that polygamy offers men greater “stability and balance.” He likened monogamy to “standing on one leg,” saying, “To stand on two, three, four is much more balanced… I feel sorry for those who have one wife because it’s difficult to stand on one leg.”

When challenged on the biblical stance against polygamy, Nwoko responded, “The Old Testament does [support it]. I am a man of faith. But that’s not what we are here for.”

Asked whether he regrets marrying multiple wives, the senator firmly replied, “No, I don’t have any regret. I will do the same thing again. Of course, that’s the way it should be. You should marry who you want to marry.”

Nwoko also addressed recent allegations of domestic violence following a viral video posted by Regina Daniels on October 18, in which she appeared in tears outside their Abuja residence. “In Ned Nwoko’s house, I am nothing, but in my own house, I am a Queen,” she said. “Not again. I can’t stand the violence, it’s too much.”

The video was followed by a social media post from Daniels flaunting a newly acquired mansion, captioned, “In my house, I am a Queen! I needed a roof over my head, so I got this for me and my family.”

Nwoko denied the abuse allegations outright. “No, come on. You know I am not a violent person. I respect my wives. I love them and my kids,” he said.

The couple’s six-year marriage, once a subject of fascination due to their significant age gap, has now become a public spectacle, drawing widespread attention across Nigeria’s social media landscape.

The senator’s comments have sparked mixed reactions online, with some defending his views on polygamy and others condemning his dismissal of the abuse claims. Advocacy groups have called for a deeper investigation into the allegations, urging public figures to be more sensitive when addressing issues of domestic violence.

As the controversy unfolds, both Nwoko and Daniels remain in the public eye, with their personal crisis continuing to play out before millions.
