LAGOS, Nigeria (FN) — TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc officially kicked off the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 Trophy Tour in Lagos on Wednesday, unveiling the coveted trophy before an enthusiastic crowd of dignitaries, football fans, and media representatives.

The ceremony, held at Eko Tower 2 in Victoria Island, marked the beginning of Nigeria’s leg of the continental tour. The AFCON trophy will travel across Africa ahead of the December championship in Morocco.

“This moment is not just about football, it is about unity, pride, and the power of Africa to inspire the world,” said Dr. Samba Seye, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc. “Our collaboration with CAF goes beyond sponsorship. It reflects our belief in Africa’s talent, resilience, and creativity.”

The event highlighted TotalEnergies’ commitment to African football and its role in fostering community and cultural pride. Executive Director for Human Resources and Corporate Services, Mrs. Olubumi Popoola-Modi, emphasized football’s emotional impact on Nigerians.

“I may not always have been a football fan, but every time Nigeria plays, I see the incredible unity the game brings to our people,” she said. “The passion, the energy, the togetherness — it’s something magical.”

General Manager for Retail and Cards, Alh. Abdulahi Umar, praised Nigeria’s legacy in African football and said the country was the natural starting point for the tour.

“Nigeria holds a special place in African football history,” Umar said. “This country has consistently changed the narrative of the sport across the continent. Today, we unveil the actual AFCON trophy, not a replica. Nigerian fans get the rare opportunity to witness it up close, to feel the energy and to dream big.”

Following the unveiling, a public viewing celebration was held at Marcellina’s Place in GRA Ikeja, drawing fans and stakeholders from across Lagos.

The AFCON 2025 Trophy Tour will continue through Angola, South Africa, Ivory Coast, and Morocco, building anticipation for Africa’s premier football tournament.
