Former Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN, GCON), is set to chair the 10th edition of the House of Justice Summit and Orange Ball Banquet, scheduled for Friday, November 28, 2025, at the Epitome Events Centre, Barnawa, Kaduna.
Themed “From Camps to Justice and Communities,” the summit aims to chart a path toward ending over two decades of insurgency-induced insecurity by prioritizing justice for victims and the resettlement of displaced persons and communities across Nigeria.
The event will feature a keynote address by Prof. Dakas C.J. Dakas (SAN), Chairman of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission. Other dignitaries expected include former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd); Senator Sunday Marshall Katung of Kaduna South; and Mr. David Snelling, Second Secretary of the British High Commission in Nigeria.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the summit, Gloria Mabeiam Ballason (Esq.), CEO and Founder of the House of Justice, emphasized the urgency of transitioning from humanitarian relief to long-term justice and community rebuilding.
“This milestone event is particularly significant because it comes at a time when concerns are rising about foreign intervention and sovereignty in resolving Nigeria’s insecurity,” Ballason said. “Accepting the factual narratives of the various forms of insurgency and prioritising justice and the resettlement of displaced victims are necessary steps toward finding real and lasting solutions.”
She highlighted the devastating impact of violent conflicts in the North-East and North-West, which have displaced millions and left communities in ruins. “Beyond feeding camps and building shelters, there is a moral and constitutional imperative to restore the dignity of victims through justice,” she added.
The summit will convene policymakers, legal scholars, defence and humanitarian experts to examine legal and institutional gaps and propose actionable frameworks for victim compensation, transitional justice, and community reintegration. A panel session will include representatives from the National Human Rights Commission, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, development agencies, and international partners.
The event will culminate in the Orange Ball Banquet, a tradition that celebrates individuals advancing human rights, social justice, and civic engagement across Africa.
“At a time when our nation is grappling with security challenges and displacement, initiatives like this remind us that justice is not abstract — it is about people, accountability, and rebuilding hope,” Ballason said.
Prof. Osinbajo’s participation underscores the growing recognition of justice-centered approaches to peacebuilding in Nigeria. During his tenure as Vice President, he was widely acknowledged for championing the rule of law, judicial reform, and human rights, particularly through the Presidential Committee on North-East Initiative (PCNI).
Founded in 2010, the House of Justice has become a leading civic hub for promoting access to justice, legal literacy, and human rights advocacy. Its annual summits continue to attract top jurists, lawmakers, activists, and international partners committed to shaping Nigeria’s democratic and social development.
