LAGOS, Nigeria — A warning from Nigeria’s food regulator has stirred unease among consumers, raising questions about the safety of one of the country’s most popular instant noodle brands.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, known as NAFDAC, issued an alert after French authorities recalled Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles in Europe. The recall cited undeclared allergens — milk and eggs — that were not listed on the packaging.

NAFDAC responded by banning the implicated product and urging vigilance, stressing that undeclared allergens can trigger severe, sometimes life-threatening reactions in vulnerable individuals. Officials emphasized that accurate labeling is a cornerstone of consumer protection.

Indomie Nigeria quickly sought to reassure the public, saying the recalled product was not manufactured, imported or sold in the country. The company described the alert as precautionary, but the statement did little to calm widespread anxiety.

Instant noodles are a staple in Nigerian households, particularly among students and low-income families. The news has unsettled consumers who rely on the brand for affordable meals, prompting renewed scrutiny of food safety standards.
