Nigerian businessman Isaac Fayose has publicly criticized former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, who is currently facing federal investigation over alleged corruption during his time in office.
Fayose, in social media posts, said El-Rufai “deserves all he gets” and rejected calls to join protests demanding the former governor’s release. He accused El-Rufai of fostering religious imbalance in Kaduna State, claiming that his policies marginalized Christian communities.
The remarks sparked a wave of reactions online. Supporters of Fayose praised his stance, arguing that the investigation is a necessary step toward accountability. “This is what we need in Nigeria leaders who speak the truth without fear,” one commenter wrote. Others echoed concerns about governance and transparency, insisting that corruption allegations must be thoroughly examined.
Critics, however, accused Fayose of being politically motivated. Some commenters defended El-Rufai, saying he had contributed significantly to Kaduna’s development and deserved fair treatment. “This is just politics; El-Rufai should be allowed to prove his innocence in court,” another user responded. Others warned against prejudging the case, stressing that due process must be respected.
The controversy underscores broader tensions in Nigeria between anti-corruption efforts and political rivalries, as well as ongoing debates about religious and ethnic representation in governance.
