France Bans Annual Muslim Gathering Over Security Concerns

PARIS (FN), French authorities have banned a major Muslim gathering scheduled to take place north of Paris this weekend, citing security risks.

The event, known as the Annual Gathering of the Muslims of France, was set to run from April 3 to April 6 at the Paris–Le Bourget Exhibition Centre. Officials said the gathering posed a major terrorist risk and could be targeted by far-right groups.

The decision comes at a time of heightened tensions both internationally and domestically, with authorities warning that participants could face serious danger. The gathering, organized annually, typically draws tens of thousands of attendees and is considered one of the largest Muslim events in Europe.

Organizers had planned lectures, workshops, and cultural activities, but the ban has sparked concern among Muslim community leaders, who say the move restricts religious expression. Authorities defended the prohibition as necessary to protect public safety, stressing that the risk of violence outweighed the benefits of allowing the event to proceed.

The cancellation underscores France’s ongoing struggle to balance religious freedoms with security concerns in the face of rising far-right extremism and persistent fears of terrorist attacks.
