HONG KONG (FN), Manchester City, Inter Milan, Chelsea, and Juventus will face off in a high‑profile pre‑season tournament in Hong Kong this summer, organizers announced Tuesday. The matches will be staged at the newly built Kai Tak Stadium, marking one of the most significant football events to be hosted in the city in recent years.

The festival opens August 1 with Manchester City meeting Inter Milan, a rematch of the 2023 UEFA Champions League final. Chelsea and Juventus will also feature in marquee fixtures during the week‑long event. Organizers said the tournament is expected to draw tens of thousands of fans and boost Hong Kong’s profile as a global sports hub.

Manchester City last visited Hong Kong in 2019 as part of the Premier League Asia Trophy. Inter, Chelsea, and Juventus have all played friendlies in Asia before, but this marks the first time the four clubs will converge in Hong Kong. The event underscores Asia’s growing importance in European clubs’ pre‑season planning, both for commercial reach and fan engagement.

Similar pre‑season showcases have drawn large crowds across Asia and the United States. In 2019, City, Newcastle, West Ham, and Wolves competed in China. In 2023, Liverpool and Bayern Munich headlined the Singapore Festival of Football. A year later, Arsenal, Barcelona, and Real Madrid toured American cities in the U.S. Summer Series.

Fans in Hong Kong have already expressed excitement at seeing stars such as Erling Haaland, Lautaro Martínez, and Chelsea’s new signings. Local officials welcomed the announcement, saying the festival would help revive tourism and international events after years of pandemic disruptions.

The Hong Kong Football Festival is expected to generate global media attention and highlight the city’s ambition to host more international sporting events. Analysts say the tournament could set a precedent for future collaborations between European clubs and Asian venues.
