WASHINGTON (FN), Judge Jeanine Pirro has dropped a criminal probe into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, ending months of speculation over whether the central bank chief would face charges.
Pirro, who had overseen the inquiry, announced Friday that her office would not pursue the case further, citing insufficient evidence to move forward. The investigation had drawn attention for its potential impact on the Federal Reserve’s leadership at a time of heightened scrutiny over monetary policy and economic stability.
Powell, who has served as Fed chair since 2018, had faced questions about his role in recent financial decisions, though no formal charges were ever filed. The decision to close the probe effectively clears him of criminal liability in the matter.
The move is expected to ease tensions between the judiciary and the central bank, which has been navigating inflation concerns, interest rate adjustments, and political pressure. Analysts say the conclusion of the investigation allows Powell to continue focusing on monetary policy without the distraction of legal uncertainty.
Pirro’s announcement marks the end of a high-profile inquiry that had raised questions about accountability at the highest levels of U.S. financial governance.
