Bianca Ojukwu Pledges to Advance Nigeria’s 4D Foreign Policy

ABUJA, Nigeria (FN), Newly appointed Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu has pledged to advance Nigeria’s “4D Foreign Policy” and strengthen citizen diplomacy, saying her role is to protect the nation’s interests abroad and deepen engagement with Nigerians in the diaspora.

Ojukwu, widow of the late Biafran leader Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, was named to the post by President Bola Tinubu following the resignation of Yusuf Tuggar. She previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and held ambassadorial postings in Spain and Ghana.

“I am truly honoured to step into this new role and express my profound appreciation to the President,” Ojukwu said Friday. “I look forward to contributing to the continued success of the 4D Foreign Policy priorities under the Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthening our citizen diplomacy efforts.”

The 4D framework, democracy, development, diaspora, and defense, has been central to Tinubu’s foreign policy vision. Analysts say Ojukwu’s appointment signals continuity but also places emphasis on diaspora engagement, given her diplomatic background and symbolic stature.

Government officials framed the appointment as part of efforts to reposition Nigeria’s global partnerships. Policy experts noted her tenure will be closely watched, particularly in navigating regional leadership in Africa, trade diplomacy, and multilateral relations.

On social media, many Nigerians welcomed her elevation, praising her experience and calling her a “bridge between Nigeria and the world.” Others urged her to prioritize diaspora welfare and push for stronger economic ties with Europe and Asia.

The appointment comes amid heightened political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections, raising questions about how Nigeria’s foreign policy will balance domestic pressures with international commitments.
