WIC Appeals to Nigerians: Secure Your Vote Through Registration

The Women in Politics Coalition has called on Nigerians to register early for the 2027 general elections, warning that failure to do so could mean losing their voice in the democratic process.

The coalition said voter registration is the foundation of participation in governance and stressed that citizens must take responsibility for ensuring their names are on the electoral roll. “If you don’t register, you silence yourself,” the group said in a statement, urging Nigerians to act before deadlines approach.

The appeal comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission prepares for the next cycle of elections, with registration drives expected to intensify across the country. WIC emphasized that women, youth, and marginalized groups should be especially proactive, noting that their participation is critical to shaping Nigeria’s future.

Founded to promote women’s involvement in politics, WIC has consistently pushed for inclusivity and accountability in Nigeria’s electoral system. The group’s latest campaign echoes similar efforts by civil society organizations during past elections, including drives by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project and Yiaga Africa, which mobilized millions of young voters ahead of the 2019 and 2023 polls.

Reactions to WIC’s call have been widespread. Supporters praised the coalition for reminding citizens of their civic duty, while critics argued that registration campaigns must be matched with reforms to ensure votes are counted fairly. On social media, many Nigerians shared personal experiences of past registration challenges, highlighting issues such as long queues, technical glitches, and limited access in rural areas.

The coalition said it will continue to partner with grassroots organizations to expand awareness and ensure that Nigerians, particularly women and youth, are not left behind in 2027.
