Wike-Led PDP Begins Screening of Presidential, Governorship Aspirants

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the Nyesom Wike-backed faction, has begun screening its presidential and governorship aspirants ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. The exercise is taking place at the PDP National Secretariat Annex, Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.

The screening commenced Thursday, May 14, with governorship aspirants appearing at noon and presidential hopefuls scheduled for 2 p.m.

The presidential screening committee is chaired by former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, with Hassan Sokodobo serving as secretary. Other members include Abba Isawa, Sen. George Sekibo, Sodipo Semiu, Chinelo Chidebelu, Nasiru Mohammed, Sen. Zainab Kure, and Lindsey Sora.

For governorship aspirants, the committee is led by former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi as chairman, with George Ariolu as secretary. Members include Ibrahim Umar, Prof. Aisha Madawaki, Tajudeen Yusuf, Abdulganiyu Oloyin, Babangida Modibbo, Buba Biri, Olaniyi Ogungbuji, Mike Ahumibe, Gabriel Igboko, Pastor Tony Effiong, and Precious Ojelabi.

The Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Committee is overseeing the process, which forms part of the PDP’s preparations for its primaries. The exercise is expected to determine candidates who will represent the party in the 2027 general elections.
