Trump’s planned use of the jet comes about two months after he flew it to Turkey before departing the country aboard a separate aircraft in what was reportedly a security-related precaution. The episode raised questions about the suitability of the Qatari aircraft for presidential travel and the security requirements involved in operating a foreign-provided plane.
The aircraft has become a politically contentious issue since Qatar offered it to the United States. Critics have questioned whether accepting such a valuable gift from a foreign government could create ethical, security and constitutional concerns, while Trump has defended the arrangement as a cost-saving measure for the U.S. government.
