The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has reported 747 confirmed cases of Lassa Fever with 142 deaths in the country. According to the Lassa Fever Situation Report for Week 22 (May 26-June 1, 2025), published by the NCDC, the cases were reported in several states, including Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, and Nasarawa.

The data shows that the Case Fatality Rate (CFR) stands at 19.0 percent, which is higher than the 18.1 percent recorded in 2024. The NCDC reported that 91 percent of cases were reported from five states: Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, Taraba, and Ebonyi. Cumulatively, as of week 22, 2025, 142 deaths have been reported.

The NCDC stated that in total for 2025, 18 states have recorded at least one confirmed case across 96 Local Government Areas. The predominant age group affected is 21-30 years, with a median age of 30 years. The NCDC is working to coordinate response activities at all levels to mitigate the spread of the disease.

The centre encourages the public to reference and share the data in their public health coverage and reporting. In week 22, the number of new confirmed cases increased, with cases reported from Bauchi, Edo, Taraba, and Ebonyi. No new healthcare worker was affected in the reporting week.

The NCDC’s report highlights the need for continued vigilance and public awareness about Lassa Fever, its symptoms, and prevention measures. As the situation continues to unfold, the public is advised to follow guidelines and recommendations from health authorities to minimize the risk of transmission.
