The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a 24-year-old woman, Somtochukwu Nwafor, in connection with the gruesome murder and dismemberment of a pregnant nurse in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area. According to the police, Nwafor confessed to cleaning up blood stains after the murder and admitted that the victim’s body parts were sold to local native doctors. The prime suspect, identified as Chiemerie Elobisi, is currently on the run.
The police investigation revealed that Elobisi allegedly lured the nurse, a trained health professional, under the pretext of needing medical help before murdering her and disposing of her body in a soakaway pit. Nwafor, who is Elobisi’s girlfriend, was arrested on July 25, 2025, with the assistance of members from Umueri village in Ogbunike. Following her confession, operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department raided the shrine of a native doctor, Nwafor Chibunna Ofornwatadile, in Itima Amawa village, Ogbunike, and recovered suspected human body parts wrapped in nylon bags.
The Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt for Elobisi and other accomplices involved in the killing and trafficking of human parts. Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu condemned the incident, describing it as “inhumane, criminal, and an affront to public morality and the sanctity of life.” He urged residents to provide any useful information to aid the ongoing investigation, assuring that all informants would be protected.
The police recovered suspected human body parts concealed in cellophane bags during the raid on the native doctor’s shrine. The command is working tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice and provide closure for the victim’s family. The incident has sparked public outrage and fear in the community, highlighting the need for vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
The case is still under investigation, and the police are appealing for anyone with relevant information to come forward. The identity of informants will be adequately protected, and the police are committed to ensuring that justice is served in this heinous crime.
