Edo Police Vow to Secure Safe Return of Abducted Seminarians

The Edo State Police Command has assured the safe return of three abducted seminarians from the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Ivianokpodi-Agenebode. The kidnapping occurred on July 11, following an attack that claimed the life of a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps officer. Police spokesperson, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, disclosed that Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, is directly leading the rescue operations.

The police have deployed operatives from tactical teams, including the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, to ensure the safe rescue of the victims. A Tactical Division has been established in Ivieukwa community to boost security operations and intelligence gathering. The command is collaborating with security experts and sister agencies to deploy advanced technical intelligence to rescue the seminarians unharmed.

Regarding a viral video of the abducted boys circulating online, Yamu appealed for calm, assuring that the command is working tirelessly to secure their release. “We wish to assure the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, parents, guardians, and the general public that the Edo State Police Command is leaving no stone unturned in its resolve to bring the seminarians back safely,” the statement read.

The police command expressed sympathy with the families of the abducted seminarians and commended their patience and cooperation with security agencies. Yamu reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to remain supportive of ongoing security efforts.
