Nigerian gospel minister, Ebuka Hillary Emmanuel, popularly known as Ebuka Songs, has issued a public apology to the Christian community following widespread criticism over his controversial livestream with TikTok personality, Habeeb Hamzat, also called Peller. The singer came under fire after clips of the session went viral, sparking heated debates across social media platforms.
The controversy deepened when another video surfaced showing Peller visiting Ebuka’s residence, where he was seen speaking in tongues and giving prophecies. This act drew sharp criticism from several Christian leaders and worshippers, with Pastor Kesiena Esiri, founder of the Remnant Christian Network, being one of the most vocal critics. Pastor Esiri openly expressed disapproval, arguing that such actions could mislead believers and undermine the sanctity of gospel ministry.
The situation escalated further when Ebuka Songs responded to Pastor Esiri’s remarks, a move that fueled more reactions and kept the issue trending for several days. Many Christians expressed disappointment, insisting that the singer’s association with Peller, who is often seen as a controversial social media figure, was inappropriate for someone in ministry.
In an attempt to address the growing backlash, Ebuka Songs released a new video where he formally apologised to his supporters, church leaders, and the wider Christian community. He admitted that his actions and reactions might have offended many and emphasised that such was never his intention. “To everyone offended by my action, I apologise, and my reaction as well, I apologise. That was not my intention,” he stated.
His apology has since sparked mixed reactions online, with some commending his humility while others insist that the incident raises broader concerns about the influence of social media on the church. As the debate continues, the gospel singer has assured his followers of his commitment to uphold the values of his calling and avoid actions that could cast doubts on his ministry.
