Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has assured fans that the team is fully prepared to deliver victory and restore pride when Nigeria faces Rwanda’s Amavubi in today’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Uyo. Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Friday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, the defender expressed confidence in the squad’s readiness and determination.
Troost-Ekong acknowledged the weight of expectations from millions of Nigerians but maintained that the players were mentally prepared and physically fit to rise to the challenge. “We are ready for our game plan. We had good training sessions, and I know my players are motivated. We have spoken about the importance of this game, and I believe we will make the nation proud,” he said.
Currently sitting in fourth place in Group C with seven points from six matches, Nigeria trails South Africa on 13 points, while Rwanda and Benin Republic each have eight. A win over Rwanda would boost the Eagles’ qualification hopes and narrow the gap with the group leaders. Troost-Ekong stressed that the result could reignite Nigeria’s World Cup dream.
The captain also underlined the emotional significance of the encounter, describing World Cup qualification as a “life ambition” for every player in the squad. “I know how much it means to represent Nigeria in the World Cup. All the players understand the importance of this match, and we are determined to give our maximum effort,” he stated.
As the Super Eagles step onto the pitch in Uyo, Troost-Ekong called for focus and unity, insisting that the blend of talent and preparation within the team would be enough to secure victory. “We have confidence in our preparation, and now it is up to us to deliver on the pitch,” he concluded.
